Men’s Golf’s Stark Elects to Return to Texas for 2023-24 Season

AUSTIN, Texas — Graduate Brian Stark has elected to return to The University of Texas Men’s Golf team as a super senior for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Stark made the announcement via his social media platforms on Tuesday.

“I’m excited to announce that I’ll be coming back for my fifth year of eligibility,” Stark said. “I want to thank Coach Fields, my teammates and all who continue to help me along the way. I am certain that another year of college golf will allow me to grow, both on and off the course, and prepare me for my eventual jump into professional golf. I’m excited for another year in Burnt Orange! Hook ’em!”

A graduate transfer who spent his previous three seasons at Oklahoma State (2020-22), Stark enrolled at Texas prior to the spring 2023 semester and has competed in each of UT’s first eight events this spring. He sports a 70.68 stroke average (second on the team) and is No. 42 in the most recent GolfStat national individual rankings (May 20) and No. 39 in the current World Amateur Golf Rankings (May 17).

During his seven stroke-play tournament appearances for the Longhorns this spring, Stark has registered two top-five and three top-10 individual finishes. He has shot par or better in 14 of his 22 stroke-play rounds this spring, including 10 rounds in the 60s. Stark recorded his best finish as a Longhorn with a third-place showing at the Big 12 Championship (April 24-26) at 6-under-par 274 (69-72-67-66) and claimed a spot on the Big 12 Championship All-Tournament team. He tied for fourth at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational (Mar. 27-28) at 9-under-par 204 (68-71-65), and his 6-under 65 in the final round of the Valspar marked his low 18-hole score at Texas. Stark also tied for eighth at the Augusta Haskins Award Invitational (April 1-2) at 6-under-par 210 (71-70-69).

Stark earned third-team All-America honors as a junior at Oklahoma State in 2022 from both the GCAA and Golfweek. A two-time GCAA All-America Scholar (as a sophomore and junior), he also claimed All-Big 12 and Academic All-Big 12 accolades in his junior season. Stark tied for 15th place in the individual standings at the 2022 NCAA Championship at 6-over-par 286 and tied for seventh at the 2022 NCAA Columbus Regional. He advanced to the quarterfinals of match play at the 2021 U.S. Amateur.

Stark and No. 15 Texas will compete at the 2023 NCAA Championships on May 26-31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
