Illinois Wesleyan Wraps Up 11th Straight CCIW Men’s Golf Crown

For the 11th consecutive championship and the 19th time since the turn of the century, Illinois Wesleyan claimed the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Men’s Golf Championship, Saturday afternoon at Whitetail Ridge Golf Club in Yorkville, Ill.

Led by an even-par, 54-hole score of 213 from medalist Quinn Clifford, the Titans won the event with a final total of 865, a 39-stroke margin over second-place Carthage.

With the individual win hanging in the balance, Clifford parred the 17th and 18th holes Saturday to finish his round with a 74 and win the three-round event by a single stroke. William Davis of Elmhurst and IWU’s Bobby Beaubien finished tied for second at 214. Davis fired a 68 on Saturday, the low round of the day.

Five Titans finished in the top 10 to earn All-CCIW honors. Jackson Hulsey, who carded a tournament-best round of 67 in Thursday’s opening round, finished fourth at 216. Juney Bai tied for seventh with a three-day total of 224 and Griffin Pohl was ninth at 226.

Evan Bridges of Carroll was fifth on the individual leaderboard with a nine-over-par total of 222. Jonah Swartz of Wheaton was the sixth-place finisher at 223, while Carthage’s Tanner Angelstad tied for seventh with a 224 and Wheaton’s Tannen Reed tied for ninth at 226.

Carthage shot 302 Saturday to overcome Millikin for second place with a three-round tally of 904. The Big Blue finished third at 911. Wheaton (911) was fourth, while North Central and Elmhurst tied for fifth with 54-hole team totals of 938.

IWU head coach Jim Ott was voted CCIW Coach of the Year by his peers for the 10th time.

In addition to medalist honors, Clifford was the CCIW Men’s Golf recipient of the Elite 26 award, presented to the student-athlete who excels academically and athletically at the conference level in each of the CCIW’s 26 sponsored sports.
