Grant Thornton Invitational: Format, Teams, How It Works

A shiny, new event is on tap for pro golf this week, and everyone is invited. The PGA Tour and LPGA Tour are teaming up for the first-ever Grant Thornton Invitational, a co-sanctioned mixed-team event that pairs 16 PGA Tour players with 16 LPGA pros. They’ll compete for a $4 million purse at Tiburón Golf Club in Naples, Fla.

Grant Thornton Invitational format

The 16 teams will play three 18-hole rounds in different formats Friday through Sunday. On Friday they’ll play a scramble, on Saturday they’ll play alternate shot, and on Sunday they’ll play a modified four-ball, meaning both players will tee off and then switch balls for their second shots, playing those same balls until holed.

Grant Thornton Invitational TV schedule

You can watch the first-round action on Golf Channel from 1-4 p.m ET on Friday. Saturday’s broadcast will be 2-3 p.m. on Golf Channel and 3-5 p.m. on NBC, and Sunday’s final round is 1-2 p.m. on Golf Channel and 2-4 p.m. on NBC. (Click here for streaming options.)
