DeChambeau, 29, has fallen to World No. 102 in the OWGR while Johnson is projected to slip outside the top-50 for the first time in 13 years.
As for DeChambeau, the last time he was outside the top-100 was before he became a PGA Tour winner.
DeChambeau captured his first title in 2017 at the John Deere Classic and went on to seven more before he was suspended for joining LIV Golf.
The highest he has ever been ranked was when he reached No. 4 after he captured the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot.
Of course, part of his slide can be attributed to joining the breakaway tour but he’s had a tough time with injuries over the last couple of years.
DeChambeau won twice in the 2020-21 season but only played in four non-major, stroke-play events on the PGA Tour in 2022.
He missed the cut in every one.
He has admitted some of his injury problems were self-inflicted as he gained weight and went too far in training in pursuit of speed and distance.
After playing the 150th Open Championship last July, where he finished T-8, the only OWGR-sanctioned event DeChambeau has played was at the Asian Tour’s PIF Saudi International in early February.
He missed the cut with Phil Mickelson.
DeChambeau, who recently went under the knife, might not seem too bothered about this as he released this video promoting his LIV Golf League side.
We kid, but beneath the surface this news will surely get under DeChambeau’s skin.
He has previously lashed out at the OWGR situation facing LIV players.
When the governing body said they would put LIV’s application under review, DeChambeau previously said:
“They’re delaying the inevitable. We’ve hit every mark in their criteria, so for us not to get points is kind of crazy with having the top — at least I believe we have the top players in the world.”
With Johnson, he has not said too much about the situation. Though it has to be conceded that he never says too much generally.
Another marquee LIV signing, Cameron Smith, has recently explained the “hurt” of not reaching the top spot.
He described the current OWGR system as “obsolete”.
